The Challenge
ChannelPorts, is committed to providing an exceptional customer experience through sustainability and operational excellence, however, they faced a challenge with the efficiency of their existing overhead heated air curtains. The considerable energy consumption and operational costs associated with these units led to the decision to turn them off. While this move was financially advantageous, it posed a risk to the indoor environmental quality and thermal comfort. Recognising the need for a solution that balanced efficiency with effectiveness, ChannelPorts sought an alternative approach to maintain their high standards without compromise.
The Solution
Following a detailed site survey and a comprehensive understanding of ChannelPorts’ business requirements and objectives, we specified and installed two Enershield ECS models over the entrances from the lorry and car parks. Additionally, an MCS model was specified and installed over a new opening for incoming and departing coach passengers.The Enershield Air Barrier technology is specifically designed to create an effective seal over open doors by re-circulating internal facility air. This technology not only provides a clear separation between two differing environments without blocking access but also prevents the entry of external weather conditions. The outcome is a significant reduction in the entry of outside air, leading to stabilised internal temperatures and creating a more controlled and efficient operational environment.
The Result
The installation of Enershield Air Barriers has transformed the client’s premises. By improving internal temperature and replacing expensive and inefficient overhead heaters, the building has become more comfortable and energy-efficient. The client has reported a notable improvement in both the operational environment and the reduction of energy consumption.

The Enershield Air Barriers have replaced old expensive over door heaters which did nothing to stop the ‘wind tunnel’ effect we had in the building. With the Air Barriers in place the external air is kept outside and the internal temperatures are much more stable and controllable.
