Maintaining consistent freezer temperatures while managing energy use is essential for Eyemouth Freezers. Frequent opening of fast-action doors between ambient, chilled, and frozen zones led to significant air exchange, making temperature stability difficult to control.
The freezer struggled to reach the target -19°C even at full chiller capacity, increasing energy consumption and operational costs while risking temperature compliance.
After a detailed site assessment, we installed two Enershield Durashield Air Barriers, one on each chilled and freezer room entrance. The units recirculate internal air and direct it across the doorway, creating a continuous high-performance seal to minimise warm air ingress during door operation.
Temperature data recorded before and after installation demonstrates a clear improvement in freezer performance. Average temperature reduced by 2.2°C, allowing the site to achieve and consistently maintain the –20°C set point while operating chillers at the same capacity. This improved stability creates an opportunity to reduce chiller load, lowering energy consumption and supporting ongoing cost savings.
The freezer temperature is now far easier to maintain, with warm-air ingress significantly reduced during door operation. As a result, the chillers no longer need to run at full capacity to hold the required temperature, supporting lower energy use and reduced operating costs.
The removal of strip curtains has also improved visibility and access, enhancing safety and efficiency within the facility.
“Enershield Air Barriers have proven extremely valuable for us. They have optimised temperature control, reduced energy costs, and positively impacted site safety. The initial results of the first Air Barrer convinced us to purchase a second, confirming the unquestionable value of Enershield Air Barriers.” – Engineering Manager
