Frequent door activity allowed external air to enter the warehouse, making temperature control difficult throughout the year. This was particularly challenging in winter, when maintaining a comfortable heated environment required significantly more energy, resulting in higher operating costs and reduced comfort for staff.
Following a detailed site survey, we recommended installing the UltraShield Air Barrier above the frequently used roller shutter door. The Air Barrier creates a virtual door by recirculating internal air and projecting it across the opening to form a robust seal. This helps separate internal and external environments, reducing the transfer of temperature, humidity, dust, odours, and insects. The system is linked to door movement, activating only when required and allowing uninterrupted access for both vehicles and personnel.
After installation, Strathmore was able to turn off two 22 kW radiant gas heaters while maintaining comfortable internal conditions. The business closely monitors energy performance, using kWh per tonne of product as a key metric. A comparative analysis confirmed a reduction in gas use of approximately 3,000 kWh per week, equivalent to a 30% saving across like-for-like periods.
The Air Barrier delivered a significant reduction in energy use, previously equating to savings in excess of ÂŁ41,000 (under historic energy tariffs). Alongside this, the laminar airflow reduced dust and debris ingress, supporting a cleaner and more controlled internal environment.
