Continuous movement in and out of the new packhouse made it difficult for this berry and stone fruit producer to maintain the required temperature in their refrigerated despatch area. Frequent opening of the external door allowed warm air & humidity to enter, causing internal temperatures to rise and condensation to form on the floor.
This created a slip risk for both forklift operators and employees, while the refrigeration system was forced to work harder to hold temperature, increasing energy use and operating cost concerns.
To fully understand the challenge and define the most effective approach, we carried out a detailed site assessment and reviewed the operational requirements of the new facility. Based on the temperature demands and high traffic levels, we specified a Durashield Air Barrier, designed for cold-storage environments and vehicular access.
The unit was installed horizontally across the 3-metre fast-action despatch door, which operates at a controlled internal temperature of +3°C. The Air Barrier recirculates internal air and delivers a high-velocity airstream across the doorway, creating up to a 90% seal and reducing the transfer of temperature, humidity, dust, odours, and insects.
The system activates automatically with door movement, supporting continuous forklift and pedestrian flow without obstruction, while maintaining separation between internal and external conditions.
The Enershield Air Barrier has allowed the facility to hold a stable +3°C in the despatch area with no temperature rise during door operation. Condensation has been eliminated, and refrigeration energy use has remained stable, addressing safety and cost concerns.
