Reducing fly Ingress at Waste Disposal & Recycling Plant
Key Objectives
- Reduce Fly Ingress
- Improve Internal Temperature
The Challenge
We were asked to design a solution for a waste disposal and recycling facility that would help reduce fly ingress in their picking room. The waste disposal and recycling facility’s picking room is equipped with a central conveyor belt, where employees continuously remove unwanted items. The room has two windows at either end, which are not covered in any way. Consequently, the absence of adequate barriers allows flies to enter freely, posing a significant issue. Furthermore, the constant need to keep the windows open compromises the room’s temperature control, resulting in an uncomfortable working environment for employees.
The Solution
After a detailed site survey, we proposed the best solution would be to install two Enershield MCS models above each of the windows. Enershield Air Barrier technology works by re-circulating internal facility air and forcing it across the opening, creating a robust seal. This industry-leading seal separates the atmospheres on either side and reduces the ingress of flying insects, transfer of temperature, humidity, dust, and odours.
Staff feedback regarding the implemented solution has been overwhelmingly positive. Fly ingress has been greatly reduced, and the internal temperature has improved, making working conditions more comfortable.
The Result
“We are delighted with the results achieved from this solution”
