Our customer faced a recurring issue with their sectional door being left open for extended periods, allowing warm air and other undesired environmental conditions to infiltrate their chiller area. This posed a significant risk to temperature-sensitive goods, compromising product quality and potentially leading to costly waste.
Recognising the need for an energy-efficient and operationally streamlined solution, our customer approached us to help protect their refrigerated logistics facility while minimising disruption to their daily operations. We were tasked with recommending a solution that could maintain temperature control, reduce manual intervention, and enhance overall efficiency.
To enhance environmental control at the cold storage entrance, the client chose to install an Enershield Air Barrier system with a new high-speed insulated door to protect the warehouse during frequent door openings. The Air Barrier is automatically activated whenever the operational door is opened, forming a high-velocity, uniform air stream across the doorway. This effectively separates internal and external environments, significantly reducing warm air ingress, cold air loss, and moisture transfer.
By limiting uncontrolled air exchange, the Enershield system helps maintain stable internal temperatures, even during peak summer conditions where external ambient temperatures far exceed the warehouse setpoint of 3–5 °C. This not only supports consistent cold-chain conditions but also reduces the demand placed on refrigeration plant, improving overall energy efficiency. The result is a robust, low-maintenance solution that enhances thermal performance while allowing uninterrupted operational throughput.
The integrated door and Air Barrier solution has delivered clear operational and energy-efficient benefits. By minimising unwanted air exchange, the facility has reduced the thermal load placed on the refrigeration system, supporting lower energy consumption and more consistent temperature control as well as protecting the quality and integrity of temperature-sensitive produced stored within the warehouse.
