Lomond Fine Foods was experiencing persistent ice build-up on the freezer room condensers located above the entrance doorways. Warm air and moisture from the adjacent area were entering the freezer each time the doors were opened, leading to excessive condensation and frost formation.
This ice build-up restricted airflow and reduced the efficiency of the refrigeration system, resulting in increased defrost cycles, higher energy consumption, and additional maintenance requirements. Lomond Fine Foods therefore required a solution to minimise moisture ingress, reduce frost accumulation, and maintain reliable, efficient performance within their cold store.
Following a comprehensive site assessment, two Enershield Durashield Air Barriers (DSH-96) were installed externally above the freezer room doorways to operate in conjunction with the existing fast-action doors. The Air Barriers were designed to activate only during door operation and were fully integrated with the automatic door controls, ensuring energy-efficient use without unnecessary runtime.
The units were mounted to the roof purlins within the ceiling and suspended using threaded rod fixings, providing a secure and unobtrusive installation. Once operational, the Durashield Air Barriers generated a controlled airflow across the door openings, effectively separating the warm external environment from the freezer interior. This airflow significantly reduces the ingress of warm, moisturised air into the freezer, minimising condensation and frost formation on the condensers.
Lomond Fine Foods have reported a clear reduction in frost and ice build-up on the freezer room condensers located above the entrance doorways. The previous issue of excessive condensation caused by warm air and moisture ingress has been successfully reduced, helping to maintain clearer airflow around the condenser units.
Overall, Lomond Fine Foods confirmed they are very satisfied with the solution and have since asked for another Air Barrier quote.
